Bringing cultural biases

Wherever we go, we bring all of our cultural biases and our unique personal approaches to work and interpersonal relationships. When we travel or work with others we not only bring physical baggage, but we also bring mental baggage that impacts how we see things and how we are seen by others.

Keys 2 Culture believes that no cross-cultural education program would be complete without a look within to become aware of our own approaches and to consider how these help or hinder personal effectiveness.

As part of our unique Awareness → Insight → Action approach, our educational programs include use of The International Profiler, developed by WorldWork, Ltd. a London-based international consulting firm.  Keys 2 Culture principals are licensed to use the International Profiler and employ it to provide a unique personalized education program that helps a person gain insights into his/her own cross-cultural work style.

TIP

What Is The International Profiler (TIP)?

The International Profiler is a psychometric questionnaire and feedback tool that helps professionals understand where they typically put their emphasis and attention across a set of competencies that distinguish those who are highly successful in unfamiliar cultural contexts. It is based on the development team’s 25 years of research into international effectiveness; their experience in training thousands of international professionals and managers from over 80 countries; and on the writings / research of thought-leaders in international management.

What Kinds of Competencies Does TIP Measure?

The researchers at WorldWork have identified 10 key competencies that include a total of 22 different dimensions, which enable people to become rapidly effective in unfamiliar cultural settings. These include such areas as Openness, Flexibility, Perceptiveness, Personal Autonomy and others.

What Kind of Feedback / Support Would I Receive?

All program participants receive:

  • Group education on the competencies and their impact on performance
  • Customized feedback report based on individual questionnaire results
  • Personal coaching sessions with Keys 2 Culture personnel
  • Support in creating their own job-related development plan.

"Going through the profiler in that much detail has really made me aware of the areas I need to work. Diane gave me some great ideas on how to work better in a global group. I have already recommended this class to others in my group that are working in global teams."

- Meaghun Darab, GM Manufacturing Engineer

“Sue brought cross-cultural awareness to a very practical approach that can be used in a variety of ways in my organization and with my students. Not only did she give me ideas, she also increased my own cultural IQ. I highly recommend her methods to anyone looking for ways in which to increase their knowledge of cultural training.”

- Sean A. Falkowski,
 Associate Professor,
Global Manufacturing Engineering Systems Technology, University of Dayton

"I found the course as well as the mentoring experience extremely valuable to my development as an individual. The conversation I had with Diane was constructive, professional and helpful. It does not happen every day when you exit a meeting having a feel of great accomplishment as well as a feel that you've just met someone who understands you and helps your endeavor of becoming a better human being. Great overall experience."
